Web funnies

If you know the old まんが日本昔ばなし program (link to the Japanese Wikipedia page on the show, which is a classic) and Dragon Ball, the following is loads of fun:

I found that on this very entertaining blog, whose posts are little more than an image and a few words describing the thing pictured. Fun stuff if you’re equipped to deal with the language.

CFP: Get your translated fiction, poetry published

Spotted at the Boston Translation blog: a call for submissions for a translation studies journal called, appropriately enough, Translation. It’s a tight deadline, but if you have material sitting around looking for a place to get printed, this is one option:

Poetry submissions should be limited to 3 per entrant. Poetry translations may be to or from English and should be submitted along with the original text for side-by-side publication. For short fiction submissions, 7–10 pages is the preferred length. Translators should obtain necessary permissions for translating texts and will be expected to assist in obtaining permission for publication of originals in the case of poetry. As a non-profit scholarly journal, Translation does not offer payment for submissions. Submissions will be accepted no later than January 10, 2007.

The journal (website here) is put out by a research group at UCSB. “Translation is dedicated to the publication of original translations and scholarly work exemplifying the complex task of translation,” goes the copy. Could be worth looking at if you’re in the business.
