Translating for Global Security!

Overheard in the Office: “The Global War on Terror Hits Another Snag”

Tech #1: There. Translations are done. All nine languages.
Tech #2: That was fast. I didn’t even know you spoke Arabic much less any of the others.
Tech #1: It’s easy — just highlight the text and change the font.
Tech #2: What?!
Tech #1: Yeah. We should hear back from the Army in a day or so. I went ahead and sent the new files off.
Tech #2: [Huge sigh.]

Thanks to the poster on JAT-list who shared this find.

Astounding wealth

Hmm, now that I have built up this site into a Genuine Media Empire, let’s see what it’s worth:

My Site is worth
$13,716

How much is your site worth?

According to that tool, “The estimated value of a single link on http://durf.org is: $17/month. If you were to sell 8 spots on one page, you could generate $136/month in revenue for your website.” Which I really doubt. I won’t plan on putting the baby through college on the strength of my mighty river of potential web income.

Yesterday Sakura and her mom were both running fevers, and there was concern about a shared illness of some kind. Tests for influenza were negative, which was good, but the baby went off to the NICU for a night for observation just the same. During the night both patients’ fevers came down to healthy ranges and beginning this morning they’ve been in the same room. (The hospital stay will be about five more days.)

Visiting hours are one to seven each afternoon/evening, so I took off early from the office and came over to see the kid. She has a good grip for a one-day-old. I have to bring some work home when I leave the office before it gets done there, but I’m happy to do so when I get to change diapers and hold sleeping infants and stuff.

More photos from the evening are up at the Flickr site.
