Lunar eclipse in Japan, evening 8/28
Total lunar eclipse to be visible in Japan next Tuesday, according to this article on Yahoo. If we get some clear skies, go outside and look to the southeast just after dusk:
In Japan time, the total eclipse of the moon will begin at 6:52 p.m. and end at 8:22 p.m. Tuesday, and the full moon glowing dimly in a red copper color will be visible from around 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the southeastern sky, the Japanese astronomical observatory said.
According to the piece, NASA says that the eclipse will be visible in parts of “Canada, the United States, South America, the Pacific Ocean, western Asia and Australia the same day.” So go outside and get some fresh air. Check it out.

Director’s cut
Got the director’s cut of Se7en the other day. It was kind of disappointing, really.

Japanese partners
A while ago on the Honyaku list there was this discussion about terms used to describe “partners,” as in “significant others.” Terms tossed around in the thread included 伴侶, 配偶者, パートナー, 彼氏 and 彼女, and so on.

This screencap is from a survey I filled out after buying a MacBook recently. The question is asking who the primary users are for various computers in my household; I’m the guy using the top three, and my wife uses the fourth, a laptop running Windows. (ME. Shudder.) I thought it was interesting to see that the survey makes room for “your lover, or that special someone” in addition to the “spouse, partner” choices.
