In here:Out there:Jakob Nielsen has wise things to say about website creation. This web design site is worth reading, even if most of what it says goes right over my head. Tidy is a handy tool for cleaning up ugly code (like the stuff you're looking at). Reach me: |
About this siteDurf.org is the personal site of Peter Durfee. That's me. I decided to make it because I am vain and also because durf.org was still available when I went to look it up. It's less of a way for me to keep myself on the web than a way to get my feet wet in site-making. You're all my guinea-pigs. Thanks! The links at the left will take you to the different sections of this site, and to related sites elsewhere. Dig around and you might find something worth looking at. Link awayHere's a button you can use to link to this site, if you're a person who does that sort of thing. Grab the image below for your own server or use this code: <a href="http://durf.org/"><img src="http://durf.org/images/durf_banner.png" alt="durf.org" height="31" width="88"/></a>
Copyright stuffAll content on this site is (c) 2001-2003 by Peter Durfee except where otherwise noted. You are welcome to use anything you find here as long as you write a quick mail to me (and to the creator of the material if it's someone else) letting me know you are doing so. It's still our stuff; please make a note of that if you use it for your own purposes. You are welcome to link to any page on this site. Not just the top one. Computer stuffI use Macintosh computers exclusively. This site was done mostly on an older G4 desktop with lots of RAM and a monitor and some stuff. I don't think that sort of information really helps anyone, but if you think it does then FYI my desktop is a G4 Sawtooth currently running OS X 10.2.8 on 1 GB RAM. I upgraded the video card and put in a 1.2GHz CPU and stuck all kinds of hard drives on the thing, but it hasn't kept me from lusting after a new G5. My new portable baby is this thing. Mactracker is a neat little program that you can use to find information on different Mac models if you're into that sort of "dying platform" stuff. I have Zip and MO and CD-RW drives. I have an Epson 950C color inkjet printer that keeps breaking. The Epsons we use at work jam several times a day, too. I can't recommend this brand. I have an oldish Konica negative scanner that I use to get some of the photos onto this site. (Helpful info from the Konica site: "It is a '97 in AMERICA NEW ORLEANS,La. Qscan won 'INNOVATIVE PRODUCT AWARD WINNER at PMA97' to 2.20-23 in held PMA97." I recently got 12MB ADSL at home. It's nice and fast, but I do not host anything on my own. I haven't even gotten into the wide world of stealing music online . . . probably because I am too busy ripping all of my CDs to play on my iPod, which rocks my world. I use Adobe GoLive to make these pages. Version 6.0 is nice and runs natively in OS X, unlike the older versions of Photoshop and Illustrator I use. All of these programs have about 350,000 features that I will never learn how to use. I use GraphicConverter to make some of the graphics on the site and to do some photo editing when I can't be bothered to fire up Photoshop. Before I post things I try to look at them in several browsers (all on Mac; Windows people, let me know if things are screwy). |
