Sakura Ruth
Born at just past 8:30 in the evening on March 5, 2007. She weighs 3,384 grams, is 51 centimeters long, and is (hopefully) fast asleep right now, unlike her dad. Welcome to the world.
Clan Durfee plots world domination
Or something . . . I’m not sure what they’re doing, sitting around the Christmas table and drinking champagne and poring over secret code books. I hope that’s what they are. Would be boring for them to end up yet another game to play at family get-togethers.
On the subject of those, we’re heading downtown to Yotsuya this evening to have our own on this side fo the Pacific. Stay up late, watch some idiotic television programming, maybe go to the local shrine after midnight. There will be plenty of food to plow through, as there usually is when you go to a dinner event prepared by the Enchante crew.
Happy 2007 to everyone (anyone? Bueller?) who takes a look at this blog from time to time. In the new year I’ll try to do more with this place. I swear! I will need to get active and share pics of the little one on the way.
Carving at Enchante
Here’s a pumpkin I carved at the in-laws’ restaurant on 10/31. Good times. We ate the seeds and everything. On Friday a bunch of us from the company had a Halloween party, complete with costumes; photos from that event will go up soon!
East Coast gourmet dining
So Adam took a trip back east and found this restaurant . . . “Oh sommelier, could you recommend a 2006 low-fat to go with this Kix?”
Incoming!
So typhoon #14 (Yagi, if you prefer the naming system used in other Asian countries) is going to pay us a visit this Sunday . . . Doesn’t bode well for our weekend walk down to Jindaiji to eat soba.

Last weekend we did the Tour de Noodles and ate at this place. I’ll have to post some pictures from that day when I get the chance. The temple has a “Soba Kannon” statue on its grounds—you can see a photo of it at the top right of this page—a Buddhist deity who’s there to keep your buckwheat noodles delicious. Now that’s what I call a useful religion.
There’s a better pic of the Kannon on this page. Next month the temple holds its soba festival (October 21 and 22, I think) so that might be a fun, if crowded, time to go see the sights.
