Costume photos
Each year a bunch of us from the company (current and former) get together at the home of the person with the largest home for a Halloween party. Sometimes this is right around Halloween (this year it was a few days later, on Friday) and some years it’s much later. Once it was close to Thanksgiving so we had turkey along with our pumpkin.

This was the first time I used iWeb to actually publish anything online, so it was like an adventure! to the land where tightly coded websites are extinct. But no matter. Anyway, I was dressed as Saitô Yûki, the “handkerchief prince,” a high school baseball pitcher who won fans in this year’s national tournament for his ridiculously long-lasting arm and his little towel he used to wipe his face instead of his sleeve. My wife went as a baseball.
Carving at Enchante
Here’s a pumpkin I carved at the in-laws’ restaurant on 10/31. Good times. We ate the seeds and everything. On Friday a bunch of us from the company had a Halloween party, complete with costumes; photos from that event will go up soon!
That’s one rich pig
The golden pig was full of silver. We put 500-yen coins in here when we bring them home. The pig was heavy, and it was time to count . . . The total wasn’t quite enough for the plasma TV, but it’s getting close. These are going to the bank this week.
Fish ladder
This fish ladder (魚道 in Japanese) lets the slippery little things get back to where they want to be when they spawn and die. Taken at Shiromaru Dam, a short hike down the river from Okutama Station. We went up there on Saturday and enjoyed the last good weather Golden Week had to offer.
A Norwegian hike
This was taken in 2002 on the way back down from the Preikestolen, which is this huge rock that juts out from the edge of a fjord and offers a 600-meter freefall to the clumsy. Nice and cool that day.
